UltiMaker Cura 5.8.0: New functions for more precise 3D printing and improved user-friendliness

The latest version of the popular 3D printing slicing software UltiMaker Cura 5.8.0 comes with a range of improvements and new functions that should be of particular interest to experienced users. The main focus is on the optimization of Z-seam placement and support for dual extruder systems.

One of the most important new features concerns the Z-seam settings. Users can now define more precisely how and where the Z-seam is placed. The “Z Seam On Vertex” option can be used to determine whether the seam should appear exactly at the selected position or at the nearest vertex. The “Seam overhang angle” setting makes it possible to define an angle from which Z seams are no longer printed on overhangs.

Several improvements have been implemented for dual extruder systems. New settings such as “Support Infill Density Multiplier Initial Layer” and various raft-related parameters are intended to improve the quality of support structures and rafts. The “Cooling during extruder switch” option allows finer control of the fan behavior during nozzle changes.

The user interface has also been optimized. A new search bar makes it easier to find offline printers. In addition, the behavior when changing nozzles has been adapted to reduce the risk of filament sweating.

In addition to these main functions, numerous bug fixes have been implemented. Problems such as missing layers on pointed objects or gaps in tree supports have been fixed. The temperature display in the monitoring area has also been refined.

UltiMaker Cura 5.8.0 now also supports new printer models, including the Ultimaker Method and various Creality and Voron models. For existing printers, material profiles and settings have been updated to further improve print quality.
