Renishaw introduces five new materials for RenAM 500 metal 3D printer series

Renishaw has expanded the number of processable materials for its RenAM 500 series metal AM systems. Newly added materials include commercially pure copper, H13 tool steel, Hastelloy X alloy, super duplex stainless steel and AlSi7Mg aluminum alloy.

A significant update to the material data sheets is the integration of the results of Plastometrex’s proprietary PIP (Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry) testing. This method allows for quick and accurate assessment of the mechanical properties of 3D printed parts through direct testing on different sections, complementing Renishaw’s existing testing procedures.

“We are pleased to be adding to our portfolio of available materials, to support innovative applications and respond to the needs of our customers,” said Marc Gardon, EMEA Additive Manufacturing Applications Manager at Renishaw. “For instance, we have developed parameters for H13 tool steel, Hastelloy X alloy and super-duplex stainless steel to support customers in Spain and Portugal — SIMOLDES, ITP Aero and ADDIMEN — for applications in the tooling, aerospace and energy industries.”

The extended range of materials opens up numerous new fields of application for users of the RenAM 500 series. Pure copper is ideal for consumer electronics and heat exchanger components due to its high thermal and electrical conductivity. The aluminum alloy AlSi7Mg enables special applications in the aerospace and automotive industries due to its low weight and high strength. H13 tool steel offers excellent thermal fatigue properties and high heat resistance, while Hastelloy X and superduplex stainless steel are particularly suitable for the oil, gas and chemical industries due to their excellent corrosion resistance and high strength.

With these additions, Renishaw strengthens its position in metal 3D printing and supports the further development of additive manufacturing technologies in various industries.
