Prusa presents mobile app for remote 3D printer control

3D printer manufacturer Prusa has released a new mobile application for Android and iOS. The app expands the functions of the Prusa Connect system and enables users to control their 3D printers remotely via smartphones and tablets.

The Prusa app provides clear access to central functions of the Prusa Connect service. Users can check the status of their printers, control print jobs and manage uploaded files. A recently added feature allows users to view images from external cameras connected to Prusa Connect.

A key feature of the app is the integration of the Prusa Printables platform. Users can search for 3D models directly in the app and send compatible G-code files to their printers. This feature is still under development and will be improved in future updates.

The app offers an intuitive user interface with a main dashboard that displays all connected printers with their current status, temperatures and print jobs in progress. The detailed view of a printer provides additional information such as the print history and camera images.

The app uses QR code scanning and NFC technology to make it easy to set up new printers. Users can scan the QR code on the printer display or transfer Wi-Fi access data via NFC.

Prusa emphasises that the use of Prusa Connect and the mobile app is optional. All of the company’s printers also function fully without a network connection.

The developers are planning further functions for future updates. These include advanced printer control, local printer memory management, a print queue and the ability to schedule print jobs. System widgets for a quick status overview are also planned.

The app is already proving very popular. According to Prusa, over 10,000 users downloaded the application in the first week after its release. The company currently has more than 20,000 active users.
