Progress in the construction sector: 3D printing revolutionizes training at Italian academy

The Fondazione ITS Academy “Cantieri dell’Arte“, a founding member of ESEB Ente Sistema Edilizia Brescia, has recently acquired the Crane WASP model, an architectural 3D printer for the construction sector. This acquisition makes it the first Italian educational institution to have large-format 3D printing technology for construction. This technology will be integrated into the school’s training and research courses. Students will thus have the opportunity to learn how to operate the machine and use it to develop research projects and concrete, sustainable applications in the construction industry.

Designed and manufactured entirely in Italy, the Crane WASP is the first architectural 3D printing system that can print with locally sourced natural materials and agricultural waste as well as standardized building materials. Its modular and scalable structure allows it to easily adapt to smaller spaces, making it ideal for use in laboratories and interiors. With over ten years of experience, the Crane WASP has established itself as a reference product in the field of 3D printing for construction and is the first Italian architectural 3D printer to be marketed worldwide.

The adoption of this technology by ESEB and ITS Academy Cantieri dell’Arte represents a significant milestone for the Italian construction industry. Technologies and knowledge that were once reserved for a limited number of 3D printing specialists are now becoming practical tools in the construction sector. Thanks to the training courses, these technologies are spreading and laying the foundations for a future in which 3D printing is part of everyday life in the construction industry.

The integration of 3D printing into education allows students to gain hands-on experience with this innovative technology and explore its potential for sustainable construction projects. This development could fundamentally change the construction industry by enabling more efficient and environmentally friendly building processes. Experts are convinced that the use of 3D printing in construction will continue to increase in the coming years and can make a decisive contribution to meeting the challenges facing the industry.
