OrcaSlicer V2.1.0 Beta brings import function from Thingiverse and more

The popular open source software OrcaSlicer for slicing 3D print models has received a new beta version. OrcaSlicer V2.1.0 Beta introduces numerous new features, including a modern icon set and practical functional enhancements.

The main focus was on a consistent and user-friendly user interface. The new, pixel-perfect icons ensure better contrast and a coherent design. Many useful functions have also been added to OrcaSlicer.

For example, 3D models can now be imported directly from platforms such as Printables.com, Thingiverse or makerworld.com – without manual downloads. However, the import function is currently only available for Windows. The infill options have also been revised, for example with a new “Cross Hatch” patterning for faster printing.

The highlights also include independent directional settings for loose and solid infill material. For the first time, the printer can be controlled wirelessly via the ESP3D protocol. An option that adjusts the layer height to the model ensures greater precision.

In total, the release includes over 200 changes and bug fixes. OrcaSlicer is based on Bambu Studio, a fork of PrusaSlicer, and integrates functions from SuperSlicer. The community-driven open source project can be supported financially via Ko-fi and is also supported by printer manufacturers such as Qidi and Peopoly.
