OPAZ Wins 3D Printing Prize at COMEX 2023 Awards

The Oman Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has won an award for 3D printing at the COMEX Technology Show Awards 2023. The award was given for the use of 3D printing technology in the construction of a business café with its facilities and a residential unit with its facilities in the Fishing Village in the Tourist Zone in the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD).

This award highlights OPAZ’s achievements in providing innovative digital services in the investment sector and recognizes the efforts OPAZ has made in digital transformation. By implementing various electronic programs, online applications, and AI technologies, OPAZ simplifies processes and provides investors* with fast, secure, and comprehensive services.

OPAZ follows a strategic plan for digital transformation that reflects its constant focus on innovation, development and the use of modern technologies. It strives to improve investor experiences and further develop managed special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities.

The award honors the use of 3D printing technology in the construction of the café and residential unit, which were built in just 35 and 12 hours, respectively, on 101 m² and 72 m² of floor space. These projects represent a significant milestone in construction. 3D printing technology enables rapid construction without the need for concrete bases and supports, with the printing process creating an integrated structure of concrete material.

OPAZ has approved the use of 3D printing technology in construction starting in 2021, as part of its efforts to promote innovation and development and accelerate the pace of construction in the zones it oversees.
