Olympia Express optimizes coffee machine design with 3D technologies

The Swiss coffee machine manufacturer Olympia Express is increasingly relying on 3D technologies in its product development. The company, founded in 1928, is thus combining tradition and innovation in the design of its espresso machines.

Since the takeover by Schätti AG in 2011, Olympia Express has been using the 3D modeling software Solid Edge from Siemens Digital Industries. According to the company, this changeover has reduced development costs by 50 percent. The software enables better visualization of new designs and the creation of 3D-printed prototypes.

One example of the use of 3D technology is the recently launched Mina portable espresso machine. During its development, the design team was able to draw on existing 3D data from previous models.

3D modeling also offers advantages for maintenance and service. The digital “exploded view” of the systems makes it easier to identify spare parts and carry out maintenance work, even on machines that are up to 50 years old.
