MakerWorld: 3D model platform from Bambu Lab has been launched

3D printer manufacturer Bambu Lab has launched MakerWorld, a new platform for 3D printed models. According to Bambu, MakerWorld is intended to promote collaboration between designers, users and manufacturers.

In doing so, Bambu Lab is taking a similar step to other manufacturers. For example, many 3D model platforms are backed by 3D printer manufacturers. UltiMaker, for example, is responsible for Thingiverse and Prusa Research for Printables. Just recently, AnkerMake also introduced its own portal with “Make It Real” and Creality operates the Creality Cloud.

Bambu Lab’s new platform is based on the concept of one-step printing. Models, print profiles and filament parameters are combined automatically. Cloud slicing software generates the optimal G-code for the respective printer from this. According to Bambu Lab, MakerWorld is designed to lower the technical hurdles in 3D printing. The entire process from model to finished print should work at the push of a button.

At the same time, Bambu Lab emphasizes that designers’ rights remain protected. For models under Creative Commons license, correct attribution is mandatory. Experts, in turn, can share their knowledge by adding optimized print profiles to existing models. Filament manufacturers can also contribute specific settings for their products.

MakerWorld already supports dozens of third-party printers, such as those from Creality, Anycubic and Prusa, according to Bambu. In the future, users will be able to share their own printer settings to increase compatibility. A reward system with points is to provide additional motivation for actions on the platform. Points can be redeemed for exclusive models or filaments, for example.
