IRPD presents new metal 3D printer for industrial production

IRPD, a subsidiary of United Grinding, has introduced the IMPACT 4530, a new metal 3D printer. The system utilises laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technology and is aimed at use in industrial production.

The IMPACT 4530 has an installation space of 450 × 300 × 400 mm and can be equipped with two or four 1000-watt fibre lasers. A special feature of the system is the ability to automatically change components and materials within two hours. This is intended to minimise downtimes and increase productivity.

The entire printing process takes place under vacuum and in an inert gas atmosphere. The powder is loaded in sealed containers, which is particularly advantageous for applications in aerospace and medical technology.

During development, IRPD placed great emphasis on temperature stability, optimised laser coverage and gas flow. Numerous sensors, cameras and monitoring systems as well as predictive maintenance functions are designed to ensure reliable operation. The output of a thermal imaging camera can be displayed directly on an external screen.

The system utilises the company’s own C.O.R.E. operating system and has an integrated build processor as well as a database with build and support strategies. This is designed to simplify operation and increase efficiency by further separating the roles of operator and planner.

The interior of the build chamber has been designed for easy cleaning. Squeegees can be automatically replaced during the printing process. The system can be seamlessly integrated with depowdering, part separation and post-processing units as well as automation systems.
