Freemelt and 3DMZ announce strategic cooperation

Freemelt has announced a strategic collaboration with 3D Makers Zone (3DMZ) to accelerate the development of additive manufacturing as an innovative and efficient production technology for mass production of industrial applications through eMELT.

As Freemelt’s commercialization efforts intensify, there is growing interest and demand from European industrial companies for Freemelt’s Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (E-PBF) technology. Especially in the defense and energy sectors, where critical tungsten components are required, the need for innovative and localized manufacturing solutions to secure supply chains is particularly high.

Freemelt CEO Daniel Gidlund comments: “As a result of our intensified commercialization efforts, we are experiencing an increased interest from European industrial companies regarding support with material process- and application development, why the collaboration with 3DMZ is critical as it will increase our capacity to meet the growing demand to support industrial customers in the transition from traditional manufacturing to AM.”

To meet this growing demand, Freemelt has partnered with 3DMZ, a technology and innovation center in the Amsterdam metropolitan region. 3DMZ has extensive knowledge and experience in industrial additive manufacturing and supports global industrial companies in the transition from traditional manufacturing to industrial series production using additive manufacturing. As part of the collaboration, 3DMZ plans to set up a new metal field lab and invest in an eMELT-iD machine by the fourth quarter of 2024.

3DMZ CEO Herman van Bolhuis comments: “We are thrilled to enter this collaboration. The AM market is maturing, and the manufacturing world is in need of digital supply chain solutions. Freemelt offers the next generation of metal printers. However, there is a lot to learn and to develop at the same time. By shaping this new field lab, the AM Campus Amsterdam will offer additional technology to its scope of solutions already in place. At the same time, several industrial partners will be invited to enter the new field lab ecosystem.”

Through this collaboration, Freemelt opens up new business opportunities in the industrial segment and can play a central role in the industrialization of additive manufacturing with its technology and products to increase the competitiveness of European and Dutch industry.
