Domin buys RenAM 500Q Ultra metal 3D printer from Renishaw

Renishaw has supplied Domin, a leading manufacturer of high performance hydraulic valves, with a RenAM 500Q Ultra system for metal additive manufacturing. Domin will use the system to increase production of its range of servo-proportional hydraulic valves at its new technology center near Bristol, UK.

Renishaw’s RenAM 500Q Ultra is part of the latest generation of the RenAM 500 series, which is based on laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The special feature of this system is the use of patented TEMPUS technology, which makes it possible to reduce build times by up to 50 percent without sacrificing precision. This technology allows the lasers to fire while the powder application system is moving, which significantly increases productivity. The system is complemented by advanced process monitoring software that provides detailed insights into the build process and ensures consistently high quality.

“The installation of a new Renishaw 500Q Ultra marks another exciting milestone in Domin’s growth journey,” said Marcus Pont, Chief Executive and co-founder of Domin. “This state-of-the-art technology will further enhance our manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to deliver even greater value to our customers. Our continued partnership with Renishaw is an example of our commitment to innovation and operational excellence.”

Domin had already purchased a RenAM 500Q in 2023, but due to growing demand, the company soon reached the limits of its production capacity. With the new RenAM 500Q Ultra, Renishaw’s most powerful system, Domin can now better meet this demand.

Domin’s hydraulic valves are designed to meet the demanding requirements of industries such as automotive, aerospace and manufacturing. By using metal 3D printing, Domin can create complex geometries with internal structures that would not be possible with traditional manufacturing methods. This results in components with a good strength-to-weight ratio and reduced material waste.

“We’re very pleased to have installed this RenAM 500Q Ultra system to enable Domin to supercharge their production,” said Josh Whitmore, Senior Technical Sales Engineer at Renishaw. “Our systems are designed and manufactured in the UK, and to sell to a UK volume producer of AM parts is a great result for UK plc and our wider manufacturing ecosystem.”

Domin combines additive manufacturing with high-speed motor control, modern electronics, big data and networked technology. This innovative approach is expected to save one gigaton of CO2e in the hydraulics industry by 2030. Thanks to the increased capacity provided by the RenAM 500Q Ultra, Domin can continue to maintain short production times and ensure the high quality of its products for its growing customer base.
