Crane WASP receives recognition at the Compasso d’Oro 2024

On June 20, 2024, Crane WASP was awarded an Honorable Mention by ADI Design for the 28th edition of the Compasso d’Oro Award. This machine, which was already listed in the ADI Design Index 2022, was selected by ADI Design as one of 39 honorable mentions out of more than 300 products included in the catalog.

Crane WASP, which was nominated for the award in the “Design of Materials and Technological Systems” category in 2022, stands out as the only construction system among the selected products. The machine, which was developed in 2018 and refined over the years, is a collaborative 3D printing system capable of building homes from locally sourced natural materials and agricultural waste as well as standardized building materials. Crane WASP has quickly established itself as a significant product in the field of 3D printing for the construction industry, making it the first Italian architectural 3D printer to be marketed worldwide.

The award-winning objects and those that received an honorable mention will become part of the Compasso d’Oro Collection, which is on permanent display at the ADI Design Museum.

All candidate products were presented to a jury consisting of Maria Cristina Didero, independent author and curator, Luciano Galimberti, designer and president of ADI, designer Francisco Gómez Paz, Renata Cristina Mazzantini, director of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, and Toshiyuki Kita, designer and ambassador of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka.

Crane WASP represents an important development in the field of 3D printing for the construction industry. Through the use of sustainable materials and the ability to produce on site, this system offers a pioneering solution for the construction of residential buildings. Being recognized by the Compasso d’Oro Award underscores the importance and potential of this technology to transform the construction industry and promote more sustainable building practices.
