Caracol presents large-format robot platform for 3D printing at IMTS 2024

Caracol, a company specializing in large-format additive 3D printing, is showcasing its innovative robotic platform for the production of large parts at this year’s International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago. This new platform, known as Heron AM, is a modular hardware-software solution that enables the production of highly complex thermoplastic composite parts without size and shape limitations. Using a 6-axis robotic system, manufacturers in industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy and marine can make their production processes more efficient, flexible and sustainable.

Caracol’s Heron AM platform was developed in close collaboration with robot manufacturer KUKA, whose six-axis robot arms form the kinematic basis of the platform. This partnership is the result of years of development and industrialization, where Caracol has combined its expertise in robotics and 3D printing to create an advanced solution for industrial applications. At IMTS 2024, KUKA will showcase the platform as a reference for large-format additive manufacturing applications at its booth, underlining the close collaboration and Caracol’s leading role in this field.

A particular highlight of the show will be live 3D printing at the KUKA booth, where visitors will have the opportunity to experience the capabilities of the Heron AM platform up close. Caracol will also showcase various customer projects and applications that demonstrate the power and versatility of its technology.

“IMTS’s expanded focus on additive manufacturing and automation this year highlights the growing impact of these technologies in industrial supply chains. Since our inception, we’ve harnessed robotics to revolutionize large-scale 3D printing, enabling unparalleled efficiency, flexibility, and geometric freedom that conventional methods can’t match. We’re excited to showcase these capabilities through our customer projects at IMTS 2024,” comments Violetta Nespolo, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at Caracol AM.

With offices in Italy, the USA and the United Arab Emirates, a team of over 80 experts and a network of 50 partners in 42 countries, Caracol has developed into a global player in additive manufacturing. The continuously increasing demand for its innovative solutions is reflected in annual sales growth, which has doubled every year since the company was founded.

Visitors to IMTS 2024 are invited to visit the Caracol and KUKA booths to learn about the latest developments in industrial 3D printing and see the technology in action.
