Accuron Technologies invests in 3D printer manufacturer WAAM3D

Accuron Technologies, a global precision engineering and technology group, has announced a further investment and the acquisition of a majority stake in WAAM3D. The latest investment underlines Accuron’s commitment to WAAM3D and its confidence in the prospects of wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) in the manufacturing landscape.

WAAM3D, founded in 2018 as a spin-out from Cranfield University, specializes in commercializing the WAAM technology developed by the university. The technology enables the industry to manufacture large components with a high degree of design freedom and reduced costs. WAAM technology is considered to be particularly energy efficient and environmentally friendly, which makes it attractive to various industries such as aerospace, oil and gas and the semiconductor industry.

“We are excited about our journey with WAAM3D,” said TAN KaiHoe, Group CEO & President of Accuron Technologies. “As the company’s first strategic investor when it was spun out of Cranfield University, we provided additional resources to support its growth as the company developed. I see this as a testament of the shared belief the founders and we have in the company, as well as the mutual trust we have developed over the past years.”

Accuron’s support has enabled WAAM3D to develop complete turnkey solutions tailored to their customers’ needs. These solutions include specialized software, wires, components and the expertise required to manufacture parts. WAAM3D continues to work closely with Cranfield University to ensure that its products and services are always in line with the latest technological developments in the field of wire-based additive manufacturing.

“In addition to providing financial support, Accuron’s industrial expertise and network also help to accelerate the company’s technology, product, and business development, but we think it takes a village to raise a child,” he continued. “Indeed, we look forward to working with partners and customers in a long-term relationship to bring this innovative, energy-efficient, and disruptive WAAM technology to key manufacturing industries. I am convinced WAAM will enable us to serve these industries to shape better lives.”

In addition to the investment, Accuron has partnered with WAAM3D to establish the Addept 3D Center in Singapore, an application center for WAAM technology. This joint venture aims to further develop technical expertise in the region and promote the implementation of WAAM technology in parts manufacturing.

This strategic partnership between Accuron and WAAM3D demonstrates the importance of innovative manufacturing technologies for the future of the industry. WAAM technology promises not only to reduce production costs, but also to reduce the environmental footprint while shortening production times. Through collaboration between research institutions and industry players such as Accuron, WAAM technology is being further advanced and prepared for wider industrial application.
