A$AP Rocky and Puma show sneaker design with 3D printing technology

Puma and rapper A$AP Rocky have intensified their collaboration and now present an extraordinary sneaker. The A$AP Rocky x Puma Mostro 3D, which launches this week, utilises 3D printing technology to reinterpret the design of the recently revived archive sneaker.

Based on a resin-based 3D printing process, the Mostro 3D transforms the original shoe into a futuristic slip-on. The most striking feature is the spikes of different sizes that are distributed across the perforated shoe. A wider honeycomb pattern has been implemented around the ankle area. The thicker sole with spikes forms a cavity in the midfoot area, giving the shoe a unique silhouette. A special surface treatment, reminiscent of spray paint, gives the Mostro 3D its characteristic black and red finish.

The collaboration between A$AP Rocky and Puma began last autumn. After a long hiatus in footwear, the release of the Mostro 3D along with two new versions of the Inhale sneaker marks a turning point in the collaboration.

The original Mostro, a lifestyle sneaker that was popular in fashion circles in the early 2000s, was initially reintroduced on a small scale by Puma in 2023. A more comprehensive revival then took place for the model’s 25th anniversary this year. While various colourways, materials and collaborations have already given new facets to the sneaker inspired by 80s surf shoes and 60s running spikes, Rocky’s 3D-printed version is the most radical reinterpretation yet.

The A$AP Rocky x Puma Mostro 3D will be available on 26 September via Puma’s website at a price of $250.
