3D printing with wood: Prusa presents new Prusament Woodfill Linden Light

The Czech 3D printer manufacturer Prusa Research has launched a new filament on the market: Prusament Woodfill Linden Light.

The new filament is characterized by its resemblance to real wood. It not only looks like wood, but also feels like it, smells woody during the printing process and sounds similar to wood when tapped. A special feature is the possibility of post-processing. In addition to the usual methods such as sanding and painting, the material can also be stained like untreated wood.

Prusa emphasizes the good printability of the material. In contrast to many other wood-filled filaments, which often require a 0.6 mm nozzle or larger, Prusament Woodfill Linden Light can be easily processed with a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle. The recommended printing temperatures are 195°C for the nozzle and 60°C for the print bed.

The filament does not need to be dried before printing. Prusa recommends the use of a satin print bed, alternatively a smooth print bed with a release layer (glue stick) is also possible. The use of structured print beds is not recommended due to possible adhesion problems.

The color of the filament is based on lime wood. The company uses wood waste from the wood processing industry for production, which underlines the sustainable aspect of the product.

Prusament Woodfill Linden Light is particularly suitable for decorative objects and home decoration. When properly processed and finished, it can imitate real wood in a deceptively realistic way. Prusa also suggests combinations with other materials such as PLA Galaxy Black or rPLA with natural pigments.

The new filament is now available in the Prusa online store at a price of 39.90 euros (incl. VAT) per kilogram. With this new launch, Prusa is expanding its range of specialized 3D printing materials and offering users an interesting option for wood-like printed objects.
